Frequently Asked Questions

If you can't find the answer to your questions below, please bring them with you on your next session.

Manual therapy is a hands-on approach to physical therapy that involves mobilizing and manipulating soft tissues and joints to reduce pain and increase range of motion.

Most manual osteopathic treatments are gentle, slow and painless. In Canada, manual osteopaths do not use fast motions to crack body joints. We can achieve the same results of re-aligning the bones and joints without the need for any fast paced movements or audible cracking sounds.

OsteoMotion treats a wide range of injuries and conditions, including sports injuries, chronic pain, headaches and migraines, digestive issues, post-operative rehabilitation, and neurological disorders (eg. concussions).

This depends on the nature and severity of the issue. Patients will often notice an improvement to their symptoms after the first treatment, but the total treatment timeline is individual to your situation. Generally, issues that are relatively recent (acute) tend to be simpler, involving a body-pattern with less layers to unravel, and shorter number of sessions. Issues that have persisted for months or years (chronic) often involve old patterns that need to be revealed and treated over time.

It's not uncommon that body-patterns develop in childhood and may be major contributors to your current symptoms. For example, many patients with herniated spine discs will describe the moment they were hurt as spontaneous, like "I just bent over to pick up a pen and pop". However, most disc herniations take years to manifest and the actual moment of injury was just the last straw. So sometimes it may seem like an acute, simple injury, while treatment unveils something more.

There's no time like the present to learn more about your patterns and how treatment may improve your favourite activities and everyday living!

Eligibility depends on your coverage, but most insurance companies will contribute towards osteopathic treatments. We can provide you with a digital receipt so you can submit your claim to your insurance company in whatever way is easiest for you. Here is a list of known insurance companies that have previously accepted coverage (this is not a complete list):

  • You should receive an email after you book your first visit, with a link to sign the waiver and a health intake form. Please fill out and sign these forms beforehand to save time during your first session.
  • On the day of your first session, wear comfortable clothes that don't overly restrict your movement. Belts, pins, hair clips and jewelry will have to be removed before the treatment can begin.
  • We'll go over your symptoms and the time frame since they began. We call this a health history. You may be asked a few questions that may seem unrelated, but provide a more comprehensive look at the situation.
  • Next, the osteopath will assess your body. You may be asked to do a few simple movements, and/or hold a few postures, before laying down and relaxing for the rest of the session. Findings from the assessment and a personalized treatment plan can be shared with you if you choose.
  • If time permits, the osteopath will provide a treatment for the remainder of the visit.
